Road station
Rudas
bei Andria [Pleiades]
Listen to the story
Rudas, a station near Andria on the road from Canusium to Rubi, has often been confused with another Rudiae far away near Lecce, the home town of the early Roman poet Ennius. The Roman geographer Pomponius Mela even made this Apulian place the poet's birthplace by mistake. The pilgrim from Bordeaux lists a different stop nearby, at the fifteenth milestone, and the list of places compiled in Ravenna miswrites the name as Budas.
