Rubos

Ruvo di Puglia

Listen to the story

Rubos is Rubi, now Ruvo di Puglia, on the road to Brundisium, where the poet Horace arrived worn out after a long stretch made worse by rain. Long before Rome, Rubi was a centre of the fine painted pottery of Apulia, and its graves have yielded Greek vases from Corinth and Athens as well as splendid local ware; the town also struck its own silver and bronze coins. Milestones of the Via Traiana stood just outside it.
