Pantyene

Sultanabad oder Makilabad (Miller)

Pantyene is probably not a town at all but the name of a region, like Tazarene further along the same road from Persepolis. It has been compared with the province of Parthyene known to Ptolemy and Isidore of Charax, and the Ravenna list writes Patienas or Pathienas, while some older editions of the map misread it as Panyene. Suggested sites include Sirjan, Sultanabad and Makilabad, and the road on to Arciotis crosses a high mountain pass.
