Insula Dorrados

Kichni Ins. (Miller) · Kism?

Listen to the story

An island drawn in the eastern waters of the map once carried the label Insula Dorrados, though today only the merest trace of lettering survives at its top left. Older copies read the name clearly, and a few letters could still be made out later. Scholars link it with the island the Greek geographer Strabo called Doracta, known to other ancient writers as Oaracta. It is probably Qeshm, off the coast of Iran in the Persian Gulf.
