Island

Insula Cyrona

Arkoudi

Listen to the story

The small Greek island of Arkoudi in the Ionian Sea is the usual identification for Insula Cyrona, though its location has been much debated, with rival proposals near Lefkada and among the Echinades. The name has faded almost completely: only the abbreviation for island can still be made out in slanting letters above the drawing, while older copies read Cyrona. It may not be a separate island at all, but a doublet of the nearby Insula Cynura, the same place entered twice.
