Insula Dicaris

Antiparo

Listen to the story

Insula Dicaris, simply 'the island of Dicaris', is the small Cycladic island now called Antiparos, in Greece. The Greek geographer Strabo knew it as Oliaros, and a list of places compiled in Ravenna gives it as Olfaris. It is the largest of the islands clustered around Paros, and its history stayed closely bound to its bigger neighbour. Its stalactite cave already drew many visitors in antiquity, and on the rocky reef of Saliagos nearby lies the earliest known late Neolithic settlement in the Cyclades.
