Off the coasts of Sicily and Calabria the map sets an island called Insula Egilia, and it is far from clear which real island it is meant to be. Even the spelling is uncertain: the fifth letter is disputed, and a faint crossbar above its stroke suggests a t rather than an i. A list of places compiled in Ravenna gives the name as Gilia. Linking it with Giglio seems unlikely, because that island lies off the Tuscan coast.
