Paresaca

Listen to the story

Paresaca recalls Paraetaca, which the Byzantine lexicographer Stephanus lists as a city of Media, and the Paretaceni, a Persian and Median mountain people; the station is sought in the area of Tabriz. The map counts forty-five Roman miles, about sixty-seven kilometres, from Trispeda. From here on, its figures are read as parasangs, the old Persian measure of road distance, so the four on to Arabum are not Roman miles.
