Nocotesso

Nocotesso is known only from this map, a station in Cappadocia on the supply road to Melitene, somewhere south-west of the old city. The Roman register of routes knows no stops at all on this stretch and a much shorter distance, so the map may record a different line of road, perhaps a later change of route, or the mapmaker may have mixed two roads together. Surveys by İnönü University have found many ancient settlements in the area, from a tumulus at Gölpınar to mounds lived in since the early Bronze Age, but any match remains pure speculation.
