Nomento

(near Mentana) (Barrington) · La Mentana (Miller)

Listen to the story

Nomento is Nomentum, near Mentana, an old Latin town said to have been founded from Alba Longa and linked with Rome by the Via Nomentana. Its vineyards were famous: the poet Martial had a small farm here and praised its wine, and Ovid and Seneca owned villas nearby too. On the map, though, its roads are muddled: the road from Eretum is only hinted at by a small hook, while the line on to Tibur should probably not be there at all.
