Gendarum

Djindaris

Gendarum is Gindaros, at Djindaris, which the geographer Strabo describes as a strong mountain fortress and a robbers' nest. Here the Roman general Ventidius won his victory over the Parthian Pacorus. The map, which shortens the ending of the name with a stroke, counts twenty-two Roman miles from Gephyra and thirty-six on to Cyrrhus, while a second road, to Thurae, has no figure.
