Fulgurita

Zarat? (Barrington)

Fulgurita means struck by lightning, and the Roman register of routes calls the place Agma, or the lightning-struck villa. It lay near the Lesser Syrtis, the gulf of Gabès, between Tacape and Gigthis, probably at Zarat in Tunisia. Here the road forks: twenty-five Roman miles lead to Gigti and twenty-six to Templum Veneris, the temple of Venus, a branch the map marks only by the fork itself. Tacape lies twenty-five miles back.
