Tentira
Dendera
Tentira is Dendera, on the west bank of the Nile opposite Qena, the capital of its district and home of a great temple of Hathor. Building there began anew under the Ptolemies and carried on under Augustus and Tiberius, and the complex that survives, from late Ptolemaic and early Roman times, is one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. Around AD 400 a unit of mounted archers was stationed here. On the map the town stands in the wrong place, before Lato and Diospolis instead of after them, and there is no knowing whether the mapmaker or a copyist put it there.
