Road station

Gagonda

bei Almus?

Gagonda was a station on the road from Comana Pontica to Nicopolis and is placed near Almus in Turkey, on the upper Iris, where a bridge crossed the river three kilometres away, at a spot once called Kadıköprüsü that now lies under a reservoir. Many ancient remains have been seen at Almus, and part of a Greek inscription was found built into a monastery half an hour from the village. The name appears nowhere else; it may be the Hittite town of Kakatuwa. Just before it, the map carries a heading for the route from Comana Pontica to this station, apparently copied from a road book.
