Cassio

Râs Kasrûn

Listen to the story

Cassio was the station at Mount Casius, today's Ras Kasrun, near the Sirbonian lake on the edge of Arabia Petraea. The mountain had a temple of Jupiter, and the emperor Julian climbed it to sacrifice to him, as Ammianus tells. The tomb of Pompey lay here too. The map counts twenty-three Roman miles from Gerra, but gives no figure for the next stretch to Ostracine, whose start is not even marked.
