Castellum Bolodurum

Passau · Innstadt

Castellum Bolodurum is Boiodurum, the fort in the Innstadt of Passau in Germany, across the Inn from Batavis, the fort of the Batavians that gave Passau its name. Boiodurum, the fort of the Boii, belonged to Noricum and Batavis to Raetia, so the Inn here was a provincial border and a customs post. In the Life of Saint Severinus the place appears as Boiotro, outside the walls of Batavis across the Inn. The map misreads an i as an l, and after the name the road simply stops: no line and no figure lead on to Ovilia.
