Road station

Casra

Banja Luka

Listen to the story

Casra is a miswriting of Castra, the camp: the name shows that a Roman army camp stood here for a while and passed its name on to the settlement that grew up beside it. The station lay on the road from Salona on the Adriatic to Servitium on the Sava, probably at Banja Luka in Bosnia, where ruins, Roman baths on the right bank of the Vrbas and hundreds of Roman coins have been found. Older research doubted this, since Banja Luka belonged to another province.
