Island

Chios

Listen to the story

Chios is the Greek island in the Aegean that still carries its ancient name. On the map its label has almost vanished, with only the last traces of the letters left; older copies read it as Chios, one of them only as far as Chio. The Roman writers Pliny and Pomponius Mela knew the island by the same name, and the geographer Ptolemy lists it in Greek.
