Diomedeae insulae

Tremiti ?

Listen to the story

Diomedeae insulae, the islands of Diomedes, is a name scholars have given to a small, egg-shaped island that the map itself leaves unnamed. It lies opposite Larinum and is probably the group the geographer Ptolemy lists under that name, today's Tremiti Islands in Italy. A black ink mark just below the island might be what remains of a letter, but island names usually sit above, so the mark may belong to a nearby river instead.
