Road station

Betamali

Betamali is squeezed onto the map: its stretch of road is so short that there is room only for the name, and the distance figure fourteen has to spill over above the next stretch, towards Ceciliana. The station is usually equated with Bethammaria, which the geographer Ptolemy places on the west bank of the Euphrates, and it should not be confused with Bemmaris in the Roman register of routes. Its exact site is disputed: one reading puts it at the river crossing of Qalaat Najm, another a little further south. A road branched off here to Hierapolis.
