Road station

Besino

Boussens, Cm. Samaran? (Barrington)

Besino was a station between Eauze and Auch, on the long road that ran from Toulouse to Eauze. It is usually sought near Vic-Fezensac or at Saint-Paul-de-Baïse, while a modern atlas suggests Boussens near Samaran. Older research wondered whether it was the Vanesia where the pilgrim from Bordeaux changed horses, although the distances differ; shifting crossings of the river Baïse might explain that. On the map, the figure towards Auch reads twelve, but a tear in the parchment may have taken away a further stroke, and the start of that stretch is not marked.
