Vivisco

Vevey? (Barrington)

Vivisco is Viviscus, today Vevey on Lake Geneva in Switzerland, a road village where the road from Avenches came down to meet the road along the lake from the Valais. The place was already settled before the Romans, as a Celtic cemetery shows, and it lay on the border between two Roman provinces, so a soldier of the Twenty-second Legion from Mainz was posted here; he left a dedication to Silvanus. A fine bronze statuette of Neptune found here is now in the museum at Vevey. The name is the same as that of the Vivisci around Bordeaux, though that proves no link between them.
