Virovino

Warwick (Miller) · Wervik (Barrington)

Virovino is Viroviacum, today Wervik on the river Lys in Belgium, on the road from Cassel to Tournai. The Roman register of routes writes Viroviacum, and the name can be followed through the Middle Ages to the modern town. A coin of the Merovingian kings seems to name it too, as a village. Both the map and the register give distances around it that are too short for the real road between Cassel and Tournai.
