Road station
Viromagus
Oron-la-Ville oder Promasens
Viromagvs, which the Roman register of routes writes Uromagus, was a road station between Vevey and Moudon in Switzerland, probably at Oron-la-Ville or at Promasens, though a modern atlas leaves it unlocated. If the register's form is right, the Celtic name means field of the aurochs, the wild cattle of ancient Europe. At this station the map changes its reckoning: towards the Rhine the distances are given in Gallic leagues, from here on towards Italy in Roman miles.
