Road station
Vironum
Vervins
Vironvm is Verbinum, today Vervins in the Aisne in northern France, a post station on the road from Bavay to Reims. It lay in the forest country of the Thiérache, which was opened up only after the Roman conquest and had a thin population of woodcutters and charcoal burners. Gallo-Roman remains, among them a theatre, have been found at Vervins and at a nearby spot called La Planchette. The Roman register of routes gives the name as Verbinum, closer to the modern Vervins than the map's Vironum.
