Vicus

Listen to the story

Vicus is plain Latin for 'village', and this one was a stop eight Roman miles from Thelbon. Here the map runs the road upright, and the stretch after Vicus is drawn so short that its figure, thirty miles to Simitta, sprawls over most of the next one; two of the little hooks that divide the stages follow each other oddly under the name. Some joined it to Thiar as Thiarvicus, against what the map shows. The Ravenna list writes Bicum, and the site, perhaps near Dadik, is still unidentified.
