Road station

unnamed/illegible, no. ID 3765

Between Grumentum in Basilicata and Tarentum, today Taranto, the map draws a second road through a nameless hook, with no distance figures at all. The main route ran by way of Heraclea along the Gulf of Taranto, past Metapontum, and the map seems to give it separately, with twenty-two Roman miles, about thirty-three kilometres, from Grumentum to Taranto. Which other road this hook stands for, and what drawing problem it was meant to solve, remains a puzzle.
