Road station
unnamed/illegible, no. ID 3769
Three Roman miles beyond Cumae, on the Bay of Naples in Italy, the map's road takes a nameless step just before the next town picture, on the way to Invinias. Around Lake Avernus, space on the parchment was scarce, and the copyist, as so often, preferred a step to a curve. No station is known to have stood here; the step is simply a mark of how crowded this corner of Campania is on the map.
