Neapoli

S. Maria di Nabui (Nebuli)

Neapoli lies at Santa Maria di Nabui, by the lagoon of Marceddì in Sardinia. On the map it stands alone, a name without a road. Close by rose hot mineral springs, the Aquae Neapolitanae, and a milestone has been found at the site. The Roman register of routes leads from here thirty Roman miles, about forty-four kilometres, to Metalla, a mining district already famous in antiquity near today's Iglesias, and thirty more to Sulci. The name is Greek for New Town, which is why several places on the map share it.
