River
Fluvius Clocoris
Alento o. Moro? [1] · Arielli [3]
No other ancient text and no medieval document mentions the river Clocoris; the Tabula alone preserves it, drawn from its source in the Apennines across two roads and down to the Adriatic near Ortona, with its name written at the mouth. Which stream it was remains disputed. The Arielli, just north of Ortona, and the Moro, just south of it, have both been proposed, yet both are insignificant brooks with no obvious reason to appear on a map. Another suggestion is the Alento, a small river that reaches the sea at Francavilla al Mare, not far from Chieti, the ancient Teate, and may explain a road station called Angelum in a Roman register of routes.
