Elusa

Eauze

Elusa is where the long road of this part of the map ends: it comes from Lyon by Vienne, Arles, Nîmes, Narbonne and Toulouse, and no stretch goes beyond. The town is Eauze, chief place of the Elusates, whom Caesar already names. It was a Roman colony by the early third century and in the fourth the capital of the province of Novempopulana. The old city lay on a height by the Gélise, at La Ciutat, where many antiquities have been found; it was utterly destroyed around 910. Some older copies misread the name as Clusa.
