Eburuno

Embrun

Eburuno is Embrun, set on a rock above the Durance, where the Roman town stood on the site of an older stronghold of the Caturiges. It was an important station on the road from southern Gaul to northern Italy, and the pilgrim from Bordeaux notes that the Cottian Alps began here. The older form of the name was Eburodunum, but the map's shorter Eburuno is already closer to the modern Embrun. In late antiquity it became the capital of the province of the Maritime Alps. All four Vicarello cups give seventeen or eighteen from Chorges, against the map's seven.
