Road station

Dymis

bei Ardanion

Dymis, the Dyme of Ptolemy, was a fortified station on the Via Egnatia in south-eastern Thrace, where the road crossed the Hebros by a bridge, some way above the river's mouth. Its name may come from an old word for birth or kin. The exact site is debated among villages such as Ardanion, Peplos, Kipoi and Gemisti. On the map the road from here crosses the river to Aenos; the route lists instead go straight on to Malgara, where they meet the map's line again. A road to Adrianople branched off here, which the map wrongly draws from Zirinis.
