Road station

Durotinco

Les Vernois oder La Grave

Durotinco was the last station before the road climbed over the Col du Lautaret on its way from Grenoble to Briançon. It is sought in the high valley below the pass, at Les Vernois or La Grave, while older research favoured Villard-d'Arène; Les Cours and Les Hyères were also suggested. The list of places compiled in Ravenna writes Durotingo. The first part of the name, duro-, is the Celtic word for a fort, found in many place names of Gaul. The distances along this mountain road are unreliable, which leaves the exact site open.
