Apo Flumen

Caraşu

Apo Flumen, the river Apus, marks the first stop north of the Danube on Trajan's road from Lederata into Dacia, where the road met the Caraș, which comes down from the Banat mountains into the Danube; older research placed the station at Lagerdorf. The list of places compiled in Ravenna knows the river as the Appion, flowing from the land of the Sarmatians. On the map, however, the station is drawn on the wrong side of the Danube. The map sets it twelve Roman miles from Lederata and twelve from Arcidava.
