Listen to the story
Aequo Falsico is Aequum Faliscum, the Faliscan town on the plain. When the Faliscans rose against Rome in 241 BC, the revolt was crushed within six days, and they were forced to leave their old stronghold on a steep crag, now Civita Castellana, for a new and less defensible town on level ground. Only the revered sanctuary of Juno Quiritis stayed at the old site, while the victors carried off the cults of Minerva and of four-faced Janus to Rome.
