Aequo

Čitluk near Sinj

Aequo is Aequum, today Čitluk near Sinj in Croatia, on a low hill by the river Cetina. Under Claudius it became a Roman colony, the only town in Dalmatia founded for veterans after the legion stationed at nearby Tilurium had left. It was laid out on a plan around a central forum; its capitol has been excavated, and remains of an amphitheatre were still visible in the eighteenth century. On the map the town symbol seems to have slipped to the neighbouring mountain station, In Alperio, which hardly deserved it.
