Road station
Aequinoctio
Fischamend?
Listen to the story
Aequinoctio, named with the Latin word for the equinox, was a station and fort on the Danube road from Vindobona to Carnuntum, at Fischamend, where the Fischa flows into the Danube; the medieval form Fiscahis-gimunde means mouth of the Fischa. A late Roman list of garrisons places a troop of Dalmatian horsemen here. A Roman register of routes sets it exactly halfway, fourteen Roman miles from each city, and the map too gives fourteen on to Carnuntum.
