Listen to the story
Tredente is Trento in northern Italy, a town built in a semicircle on the left bank of the Adige, where the road from Verona climbs towards the Brenner Pass. The map gives it the usual pair of towers, set here on a small pedestal. Ancient writers disagreed about its founders: the Roman writer Pliny called it a Raetian town, while the historian Justin thought it Gallic. Walled under Augustus, it was a Roman colony by the end of the second century, was plundered by the Alamanni in the third, and from the fourth century was the seat of a bishop.
