Listen to the story
Tuder, now Todi in Umbria, was an old Umbrian town set high on a steep hill above the left bank of the Tiber, where Umbria met Etruria. After 42 BC it had to take in Roman veterans and became the colony Iulia Fida, and the Roman writer Pliny praised its wine. A statue of Mars from the late fifth century BC, dedicated by a Celt named Ahal Trutitis, was found on a hill nearby. On the map the town's symbol touches a river, so its name had to be written above the stream.
