Ponte Adriani

Ponte St. Angelo

Ponte Adriani is Hadrian's bridge in Rome, today the Ponte Sant'Angelo, built by the emperor together with his mausoleum and finished in 134. In its own time it was called the Pons Aelius, after Hadrian's family name; the form on the map, bridge of Hadrian, first appears in the poet Prudentius at the end of the fourth century, a sign of a late stage of the map. On the map the Triumphal Way crosses the Tiber by it towards Saint Peter's. In the Middle Ages it was called Saint Peter's bridge, and from the fifteenth century Ponte Sant'Angelo.
