Pella

? In der Nähe von Karayahşiler ?

Somewhere south of Çivril, perhaps near Karayahşiler, lay Pella, properly Peltai, a Phrygian town in a plain named after it near the upper Maeander. The map's spelling may come from confusion with the better-known Macedonian Pella. Here Cyrus the Younger halted with the Ten Thousand on his march, as Xenophon tells; later the Seleucids planted a military colony, whose coins call the citizens Macedonians, and in late antiquity it was a bishop's seat. On the map the name sits above its station mark rather than beside it, because the big red A of Asia had already taken that space.
