Pennolucos

Villeneuve? (Barrington)

Pennolvcos, Penne Locos in the Roman register of routes, was a road station near Villeneuve at the eastern end of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Its Celtic name means head of the lake. A milestone from 305 found at Villeneuve counts twenty-six Roman miles to Martigny, which matches the real distance. The station itself has vanished, and somewhere nearby lay Tauredunum, which, as later chroniclers tell, was destroyed by a great landslide in 563. The map's nine miles from Vevey are rather too many for the real distance.
