Nueriola should read Nuceriola, little Nuceria: a careless copyist dropped a c, as the list of places compiled in Ravenna, which writes Nucerulas, still shows. It was a station on the Via Appia in the land of the Hirpini, not far from Beneventum, whose territory it belonged to. A milestone from this stretch, now kept in Benevento, counts one hundred and seventy-two miles from Rome, about two hundred and fifty-five kilometres.
