Neumagen
Noviomago is Neumagen on the Moselle in Germany, a market and landing place where wine, timber and grain were traded, at the point where the road from Trier turned away from the river. After its destruction around 275, Constantine fortified it with a towered wall, and the poet Ausonius calls it the famous camp of the divine Constantine. In modern times Neumagen became famous for what its walls contained: since 1877 the remains of more than forty grave monuments have been recovered from the foundations, brought from the cemeteries of Trier by the boatload, with lively scenes of daily life.
