Moesia Inferior

Listen to the story

Moesia Inferior, Lower Moesia, was the Roman province on the lower course of the Danube, covering roughly what is now northern Bulgaria and the Dobruja in Romania. Lower here means downstream, as opposed to Upper Moesia further up the river. Its name is spread across a wide stretch of the map in red letters, and that colour is the curious part. Upper Moesia is written in black, yet both matching names for Upper and Lower Pannonia are red.
