Listen to the story
Mesopotamia, the land between the rivers, stretches across the part of the map that lies east of the Euphrates and south of the Taurus mountains. In late Roman times it was a province of the Diocese of the East, and the Tabula is remarkably thorough here. Of that diocese's nine provinces, eight are named on the map, from Cilicia and Cyprus to Palestine, Arabia and Mesopotamia itself. Only Commagene is missing.
