Magno

Balina glavica

Magno, the Roman town of Magnum, lay at Balina Glavica near Drniš in Croatia. It grew from a Dalmatian settlement, probably the Synodium where, as the Greek historian Appian tells, a Roman army under Gabinius was trapped and beaten in a deep gorge between two mountains, and which Octavian later burnt. From the middle of the first century a cavalry regiment was stationed here, then soldiers of the governor's staff, and under Marcus Aurelius Magnum probably became a self-governing town. The milestones towards Siscia counted their miles from here.
