Lucis

Locri

Listen to the story

Lucis is a squeezed and garbled Locri: the little i is written above the line between c and s, apparently as an afterthought. Locri Epizephyrii, the Locrians under Cape Zephyrium, was a Greek colony founded around 679 BC on the Ionian coast of Calabria, near Gerace. It was famous for Zaleucus, said to have given the Greeks their first written laws. On the map its distance from Scyle is hard to read: it may be nine or sixty.
