Liviana

(13 miles E Thamugadi) (Barrington)

Liviana lay in Numidia, in present-day Algeria, about fourteen Roman miles east of Thamugadi, the Roman Timgad, perhaps at the ruins of Henchir Mamra. Here, by older reckoning, a road from Theveste joined the one from Thamugadi, and from here on milestones mark the way. The name is an adjective from the Roman family name Livius, and the map knows a second Liviana elsewhere. The map sets it five Roman miles, about seven kilometres, from Popleto and eighteen from Vicus Aurelii.
